The Library Café is a charming spot located right next to the University of Hull's Brynmor Jones Library, nestled on Cottingham Rd in Hull. With its cozy atmosphere and diverse menu, it's an ideal place for students, faculty, or anyone looking for a comfortable dining experience. Whether you're grabbing a quick coffee between classes or sitting down for a meal with friends, this café offers a welcoming environment for all.

Walking into The Library Café, you're greeted by a warm and inviting interior that perfectly complements its location. The layout is both modern and relaxed, making it the perfect place to spend a few hours. The space is bright and airy, thanks to large windows letting in plenty of natural light, making it a great spot for those who love to work on their laptops or enjoy a meal while studying. The café offers free Wi-Fi, which is a huge plus for anyone needing a quiet spot to get some work done.

The menu at The Library Café is varied enough to cater to a wide range of tastes. From hearty breakfasts to light lunches and comforting afternoon snacks, there’s something for everyone. If you're in the mood for a quick bite, the selection of sandwiches and wraps is perfect. On a recent visit, I tried the classic club sandwich, which was packed with fresh ingredients and served with a side of crisp, golden fries. For something lighter, the salads are a refreshing choice, with options like the smoked salmon and avocado salad, which is full of flavor without feeling too heavy.

For those who need a caffeine fix, The Library Café’s coffee offerings are top-notch. Whether you prefer an espresso, a flat white, or a cappuccino, the baristas here know their craft. The coffee is rich and smooth, making it a perfect accompaniment to a sweet treat. On one occasion, I opted for a slice of the homemade carrot cake, which was moist and delicious, offering the perfect balance of spices and sweetness.

The café also stands out for its commitment to using locally sourced ingredients. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, always happy to recommend a dish or drink based on your preferences. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried, making it the perfect place to chat with friends or even host a small meeting. There’s a cozy section near the back where you can sit in comfortable armchairs, ideal for those who want to read a book or simply unwind.

What makes The Library Café truly stand out is its location next to the University of Hull. It’s a popular spot among students, making it a great place to meet up with classmates or take a break from the rigors of university life. The proximity to the Brynmor Jones Library also makes it a convenient stop for those looking to grab a quick bite or a coffee before diving back into their studies. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, the café offers a space that feels like a second home for many in the university community.

In terms of price, The Library Café strikes a great balance. It's not overly expensive, especially considering the quality of the food and drinks. The portion sizes are generous, so you definitely get your money’s worth. If you're looking for a place that combines great food, a relaxing atmosphere, and excellent service, The Library Café is an easy recommendation.

Over the years, The Library Café has earned a reputation for being one of Hull’s best-kept secrets. With its laid-back vibe, friendly service, and great food, it’s no wonder that it's a local favorite. If you haven’t been yet, it’s well worth a visit-whether you're looking to grab a quick bite, enjoy a leisurely lunch, or simply sit back with a coffee and a book.

  • It is a great place to meet up before a lecture or a study session. You can get pizza, hot sandwiches, salads, and brownies alongside other sweet treats and prepackaged sandwiches. Of course, there are various options of coffee from the Costa side and cheaper self-serve options, with various hot drinks to choose from.

  • It's housed in the university of Hull , I took my daughter to school , she's studying the fiendish ways of the odp . So we took the opportunity of having a nosey . Impressive array of buildings and open spaces . We had a light lunch at the library cafe which was very pleasant.

  • Tends to get very busy in the morning but is usually okay throughout the day. Prices are quite expensive but so is most of the food and drink on campus. Tends to have a good enough selection of cold drinks and food. The staff are usually friendly but there are a few that could learn some better service skills.
